Day 1 — 23 Nov

Arrive into a decorated city

Night in Varanasi

  1. By 14:00Arrival and check in.
  2. 16:00Guided old-city walk. The lanes are already strung and lit, without the next night's crowd.
  3. 18:15Ganga aarti at its ordinary scale — worth seeing before the festival version.

Day 2 — 24 Nov

Dev Deepawali from the water

Night in Varanasi

  1. 05:30Sunrise boat before the river closes to casual traffic.
  2. 11:00Kashi Vishwanath if you hold a morning slot.
  3. 15:30Vehicle positions at the planned drop point; barricades are going up.
  4. 16:30Board the bajra before the river fills. Boarding late on this night is the main way boat bookings go wrong.
  5. 17:15Lamps lit across the whole ghat front, seen from the water.
  6. 18:30Festival-scale Ganga aarti from the boat.
  7. 20:00Laser and fireworks sequence over the river.
  8. 21:30Ashore and out to the agreed pickup point once the crush thins.

Day 3 — 25 Nov

Sarnath and out

  1. 09:30Checkout, drive to Sarnath.
  2. 10:00Dhamek Stupa, the museum and the vihara.
  3. 14:30Drop at the airport or station.

Who this is not for

Small groups. A private bajra only makes financial sense filled — across fifteen or twenty people it works out near a shared bajra seat, and across four it is simply expensive. For a small party, book seats on a shared bajra instead and we will say so.
